Fr. John Loya was ordained in June 1974 as a priest for the Diocese of Cleveland. He is presently the Spiritual Director of Borromeo Seminary, a position he has held since 1993. His first assignment after ordination was to Saint Charles Borromeo Church. In 1979 Fr. Loya volunteered to do mission work in El Salvador. During his time there Archbishop Romero was killed in March of 1980 and Sr. Dorothy Kasel and Jean Donovan, friends and members of the Cleveland Mission Team, along with two Maryknoll sisters were murdered on December 2, 1980. He is the author of Gifts From the Poor, a book about the faith life of people he knew in El Salvador. Upon his return from the missions he served at Saint Richard Church from 1985-88 before he received a Masters in Spirituality from Santa Clara University and becoming the Spiritual Director of Saint Mary Seminary (1989-2009). Fr. Loya enjoys golf, walking and watching movies for “stories of the truth.” His latest book is Jesus’ Love Stories: Scriptural Insights into the Spirituality of Christian Loving which he co-authored with his brother Father Joseph A. Loya O.S.A. , a professor at Villanova University.
