St. Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-430) St. Augustine of Hippo is the bridge between the ancient and medieval world of Christianity. As a philosopher, theologian, bishop, and doctor of the Church, Augustine left his mark on the Western world through his brilliant writings. Our freshmen read Augustine’s Confessions during their first semester, our juniors study De Libero Arbitrio in Epistemology, and our seniors come back to Confessions in the Philosophy of God.
