My name is Joe Herrera Jr., I am from San Antonio, Texas. My home parish is St. Joseph Catholic Church in downtown San Antonio. I graduated from South San Antonio High School in 2017 and was in public school from elementary to graduation. The most common question I get is, “What are you doing in Ohio?” Well my parish priest, Fr. Mario Marzocchi S.S.S., is a part of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, and their community is centered in Ohio. I am the oldest of three boys, and we all would serve mass on Sundays. Fr. Mario was a big inspiration to me and I enjoyed serving and helping the church. I was a part of my church’s youth group in high school and even became a confession and first communion teacher for two years. Then one day I met Fr. Anthony Marshall S.S.S., the vocation director for the Blessed Sacrament. After praying about it and talking with Fr. Mario and my family, I decided to give the seminary a shot. I don’t know what the future has in store for me, but I plan on facing it head on.
